Hemingway’s Kuopio

On Kauppakatu, the home street of cold pints and long sips, stands Hemingway’s Kuopio. Right by the market square, surrounded by other fine bars, there’s a pub where life is simple: a greeting at the counter, a short wait, and soon a glass sails into the hand that’s been waiting for it — the same hand that lifts it to thirsty lips.

So welcome to Hemingway’s Kuopio — where we raise our glasses again and again: to stories, to life, to culture, to curiosity, to thirst, and whatever else the moment calls for.

You’ll always find honest beer, an easygoing atmosphere, and a place where you can simply be. No one makes a fuss about it here. This is a bar.

From the taps flow familiar favorites and, every now and then, a small surprise. The beer is cold, and the selection is built around what people come here to drink — exactly what you’re after. Or maybe not. Could be, or could not be. That’s how it goes around here.

A Kuopio Bar for Kuopio Locals

Hemingway’s Kuopio is a toast to stories — an ode to the Finnish drinking culture that brings people together. And we believe there’s more room for that now than ever before. It’s about more than opening hours and beer brands. There’s something local here. A familiar street, a caretaker who knows Kuopio’s pub scene, and an atmosphere that feels genuine.

Sure, it’s a bar chain — but it’s not branded into one. It’s simply become what it is, growing naturally alongside the people who visit it.

We’ve got karaoke and disco. Hospitality and good times. Bar stools, good company, and a cold drink when you need one. The kind of pub where you don’t have to know the etiquette — it’s enough that you walk in.

How Papa Hemingway Might Have Written About Hemingway’s Kuopio

The door opens on Kauppakatu.
The evening has begun.
There’s an empty chair at the table.
At the bar, a man and a woman. They laugh and drink.

The beer is cold. The wine is red tonight.

When you want to sit quietly — you can.
When you want to talk — you can.
When you want to dance — you can.
When you want to sing — you can.
A classic.

Classics don’t need tricks. They taste exactly the way they should.

Welcome — to drink, to enjoy, to get a little drunk. Let’s raise a glass to the stories yet to be told.
